To the victors go the spoils! The Winter Classic Recap!

And with that another winter classic has concluded!

It was full of delicious treats for all!

We saw some pretty wild stuff this year! A 30/30 beastboy out of the box! A control deck the likes we hadn't seen before! a few thrown games, a few close games and of course, more than a little bit of players cursing OCTGN's randomization code. But if you can't blame the draw, what's the point?

Ah, yes, life is good. I'd firstly, like to thank all that participated! Every time we hit at least 8 players for these events, it puts a skip in my step, a gleam in my eye and a bulge in my... EGO.
But seriously, This all stems from a crazy guy that single-mindedly refuses to stop playing an old game and wanted new content. BAM. Remix explained! And as long as other people are willing to play cards with lil old me, i'll keep making sure there is a continuance of new content being pumped out. New toys for all!

But let's get to it shall we? This year we had 8 fantastic players vying for bragging rights for the first banner change of the year, for your browsing pleasure, i shall hotlink each decklist to each player name below in the order they finished.

Even fixed and nerfed, there is no question as to the viability of the shift mechanic. Working 100% as intended it is a wildly efficient means to use resource points. Completely aiming to forgo an early game, Norman elected to instead create a solid turn 5 play looking to stun an entore opposing board using mimic, jason todd, roy harper and Koriand'r with some unique out-of-the box utility from Panoptichron and 5-in-one to go completely ham with build phase stuns.

Put a different way. We all practiced fundamental baseball. we practiced batting, catching, field drills. and baserunning.
Norman showed up and started firing baseballs from the mound with a sherman tank. If they never hit the ball, they can't  win... right?

They really didn't either.

Congratulations to our 1st place finisher and his unique concoction!

In Darius' own words "This is the most consistent aggro deck in Remix". Frankly, he isn't wrong. The deck does the standard reservist build, taking advantage of Bizarro's rowed early to allow outlaw interactions which may or may not be wildly overtuned. Cards like Roy Harper and Jason Todd enable complete control over any deck even considering telling its life-coach about a "rush strategy" and then take their girlfriend out on the town just to show them what a real man can do. The best part about this deck, is actually the ability to easily tech political pressures. which in remix are insanely potent plays into substitute, press, and shift. mechanics that are considered much stronger right out of the gate, and often mainstays in competitive Remix play. While never seeing the top table, Darius managed a favorable tiebreak for a 2nd place finish in swiss. Not bad for a trucker playing on break from a laptop in his cab.

3x Healing Factor

LOCATIONS
4x X-Men Together, Team-Up
4x X-Corporation, X-Corp
4x Empire State University

This deck almost rivals Wes' list in sheer +1/+1 counter abusiveness. where Wes is looking for a single massive body, Andre opted a global board roaring well past standard limits. Consistently landing 3-4 X-Men United!'s by turn 5, a single evasion suddenly meant each character jumping two slots up the curve. Truth be told if i had used standard event software, he would be listed as 2nd place, however as a no top swiss event, losing in the final table often means a 3rd place fall in the tiebreak.

Don't sleep on this list though. it is completely and unfeasably consistent.
Like my bowel movements on prune juice, this deck keeps giving.

4 - Wesley Nichol - Beast Boy abuse

Today I woke up, the day was nice, I won free gas in a scratch game, mom called and told me she loved me. it was pretty good. Compared to Wes on an average draw with this deck, My day is literal trash.
You see, Mankind aspires to many things, space-faring travel, discovery of lost species. and the perfection of every pursuit we endeavor to master.
Wesley, makes humungous Beast Boys. BOY HOWDY.
And I'm not talking oh wow that 6 drop is a 7 drop.
No, I'm talking his 6 drop, ON TURN SIX, can bitchslap Galactus and take his lunch money. While Galactus' disapproving mom tells big G how he deserved it.

In one game, this token wielding savant managed to crack a 30/30 Beast boy on turn 6.
THIRTY.

Comparitively, My life feels entirely wasted on silly things like family and love and financial success.
Try this deck.

So i just want to say that yours truly, really did not do this list justice this event. don't believe me? watch game 2 of my round 3 pairing as i literally throw the game away! haha oops!
That having been said, This list is awesome! Prime has the ability to deal with almost everything, and for safety from KO's ruining the "real superboy" chain, using negative space to call my own prime proved to be a remarkable solution while also enabling one of the best resource hate cards in the game right now, Wave of Destruction! Try it!

A fairly standard take on Sinister Syndicate's potent ko/hand control offsetting some aggressive power. Due to some unforseen issues, Boris was forced to scoop the event but otherwise would have seen a solid finish!
