Its been 8 weeks, and what began as 32 randomly assigned teams became one.

The one.
It is an odd compulsion to bust out some ridiculous event every few years, and thoroughly exhaust myself writing match reports and organizing and maintaining betting pools, but I credit that to a fantastic game and an even better community. According to all reports, the game known as VS System is long dead.

I'm just so happy our community didn't get that memo. Something about this game soothes the soul.

Thanks for supporting the creative outlets of a dude that just wont let go!
I truly hope you enjoyed this. I know I did.

Darius thinks for a while, and elects to activate Ilsa's ability, exhausting her (discarding a Conclave) to fetch new and Improved. He then passes.
Ilsa Stuns and KOS to anarchy.
Bounty hunt gains a counter.
Aaron then sends Chen into Jared. Both players pass for a mutual stun, and both KO to Total Anarchy.

Aaron sets a resource, and flips up a rowed Mobilize (Discarding a Blind-Sided) to fetch Goldface, recruiting it in his front row (discarding 2x Fatality as an additional cost) he then recruits Capture net onto Man-eater and forms it -protected, behind Goldface before passing to combat.

    COMBAT PHASE

Darius laments his lack of flight, and sends Grigori into Goldface, once legal, playing a rowed Beatdown on him for +5 ATK. Aaron opts to not reinforce and both characters stun.
Aaron then activates man-eater's capture net to spin Grigori back to Darius' hand proccing two bounty counters to once more draw 2 cards.

Both players pass.

Aaron recovers Goldface.

Aaron sets a resource and flips up a mobilize, (Discarding Powell) to fetch Major Force, then recruits Major force into his front row, protecting Man-eater and moving goldface into his support row adjacent to the 3 drop. He passes.

Darius sets a resource, recruiting Blue Devil, big blue. It's effect triggers and he loses 4 endurance. he shrugs and passes.
    "Hard lock to get out of."
    "That's the idea."

    COMBAT PHASE

Aaron declares Goldface into Blue Devil, once legal using Goldface's effect to KO a rowed Mobilize for +2/+2 and passing as an 11/11 attacker.
Darius powers up (Discarding a 2 cost blue devil)
Aaron responds, flipping up a rowed Empire of Tears, electing to KO two resources (A face down Powell and the face up Mobilize) leaving him with 2 resources, and activates Empire of Tears to grand Goldface another +2/+2. Both players pass and Blue Devil stuns with 2 breakthrough.
Aaron activates Man-Eater's net returning Blue Devil to Darius' hand for another 2 bounty counters and immediately spends them to draw 2 cards.
Blue Devil triggers and Darius gains 8 endurance.
Major force swings direct for 12.
Aaron passes.

Aaron sets a resource and recruits Fatality. Forming her protected by Goldface, and keeping Man-Eater protected by Major Force. before passing to combat.

    COMBAT PHASE

Darius passes combat.
 
Aaron sends Goldface into Nightmaster. Once legal, he activates Empire of tears for +2/+2, and then flips up and activates a rowed Stryker's Island. activating it for another +2 ATK. Finally he uses Goldface's effect to KO Stryker's island for another +2/+2 passing at 15/13.
Darius plays a rowed Abjuration, paying 5 endurance for +3 DEF, (since it is ongoing fatality cant negate this) and powers up for 12/15 and goes into the tank. He then plays a rowed Mobilize (discarding Jared Stevens) which is promptly degated by Fatality (KO-ing Bounty hunt leaving 1 resource) And Nightmaster stuns.

Aaron activates his catcher's mitt to spin nightmaster since his man-Eater has no range anyway, and sends fatality direct for 3, powering her up, before sending the 13/13 major force direct.

"That damn power-up."

Darius declares Blue Devil into Major Force. passing once legal.
Aaron flips up Empire of Tears, (KOing a Mobilize and the Bounty hunt as an additional cost) leaving Major Force at 11/11.
Darius plays a rowed Savage Beatdown.
Aaron exhausts Major Force for Powell's effect, removing it from play to fetch a Bounty Hunt, then passes for the mutual stun.
Darius pays 5 endurance for Grigori, KOing Major Force, before declaring a team attack into Goldface with Grigori and Zatanna.
Aaron activates Empire of Tears for+2/+2 then KO's Empire to Goldface's effect for another +2/+2, bricking the attack and passes. Darius responds with 2 zatanna power-ups to ensure the stun. Both players pass. Grigori stuns. as does Goldface.

Aaron sends battlestar into Zatanna. Once legal he activates Stryker's Island for +2 ATK.
Darius flips up a rowed Abjuration, paying 5 for +3 DEF, but zatanna's 8 DEF still falls to battlestar's 9 ATK.

    RECOVERY PHASE
Abjuration triggers, Gaining Darius 5 Endurance.
Darius recovers Blue Devil. KOing Grigori and Zatanna.
Aaron recovers Goldface.

Aaron sets a resource, recruiting Man-Eater into his front row, and passing.
Darius sets a resource, and plays Wake the Devil, opting to place all three cards on the bottom of his deck and drawing a card. he then recruits June Moon, bad witch, protected by Blue Devil and they both pass to combat.

    COMBAT PHASE

Aaron activates Man-Eater's free effect to target June Moon. And then declares Goldface into her. Once legal he flips up Bounty Hunt and activates Stryker's Island for +3 ATK before passing.
Darius, stuck at 13 endurance is clearly reluctant to activate June Moon and goes into the tank.
    "This could be interesting."
Darius plays a Savage beatdown from his hand, targeting Aaron's attacking Goldface, then plays a rowed Conclave, paying 4 endurance to negate the beatdown.
    "haha Wow man. sneaky."
Darius then activates June Moon to stun Goldface with no penalty, now at 9 endurance. Aaron passes, Goldface stuns. With prison planet up and no ability to team swing, he passes combat.

Darius Declares Blue Devil into Man-Eater. Once legal, he flips up Total Anarchy and passes. Man-eater stuns and is KO'd.

    RECOVERY PHASE
Abjuration triggers, gaining 5 endurance.
Aaron recovers Goldface.

Darius sets a resource and plays Wake the Devil from his hand placing 1 card on the bottom of his deck and rearranging the rest on top before drawing a card. He then plays a mobilize from his hand (discarding an Accept your destiny) to fetch Shazaam, recruiting it into his support row and passing.

Aaron sets a resource, and recruits Powell and Fatality, forming Fatality behind Goldface and Battlestar behind Powell.

    COMBAT PHASE

Darius sends Shazaam into Goldface. Goldface KO's Prison Planet for +2/+2 and reinforces him with Fatality. next June Moon flies into Battlestar for a one-sided stun, then sends Blue Devil to do the same with Powell before KOing Blue Devil to his rowed New and Improved to gain 8

Darius declares Zatanna into Goldface, once legal, playing a savage beatdown for 9 ATK.
Aaron goes into the tank, clearly debating if he should pop resources to try to brick or kiss goldface goodbye.
he plays a rowed Mobilize (Discarding Blind-Sided) and chains Fatality's effect, KO ing the mobilize resource to negate the played beatdown. The mobilize resolves, and Aaron fetches Sinestro, corrupted by the ring. Darius then adds another beatdown to the mix, flipping it up from his resource row.
    "Can't do that... Battlestar."
    "Oh shit."
The beatdown goes back facedown. Both players pass and Zatanna is stunned.
Darius then sends Grigori into Crippler for a one-sided stun and pays 1 endurance to ko it before passing his combat.

Aaron sends Goldface into Grigori for an uncontested stun. Following up with Battlestar swinging direct for 7. He activates Fatality's Capture Net to spin Grigori land 2 counters and immediately spend them to draw 2 cards before passing.

    RECOVERY PHASE

Abjuration fails to trigger.
Darius recovers Zatanna.

WEE -> 40  Dark Magic -> 14




        TURN 5 (Aaron Initiative)

Darius plays The Conclave from his hand to negate the search paying 4 endurance.
    "Bummer."
Aaron then recruits Man-Eater protecting Battlestar followed by The Shark, also in his support row unprotected before equipping a capture net onto the Shark. He then passes his build.

Darius sets a resource and  pays 3 for Nightmaster (1) alt cost flipping up New and Improved to KO it, he then pays 3 again, oncemore KOing the 1 drop before recruiting ightmaster Demon Hunter protecting Zatanna at 13/13 and passing.

    COMBAT PHASE

    "Not looking good for you."
Aaron uses Man-eater's effect to target the protected Zatanna and sends Goldface into her. Once legal, KOing the rowed mobilize to Goldface's effect for a swing of 13 into her 5.
Darius KOs her to new and Improved. Goldface readies.
    "Huh. Using the Prison Planet against me."
    "No team swings for you... I think?"
Aaron shrugs and flips up Empire of tears, KOing Prison Planet and Bounty hunt. Then declares Goldface and Man-eater team swinging into Nightmaster.
    "That will do it." Darius passes stunning back Goldface.
Aaron continues direct with Fatality, Battlestar and The Shark for 9.

Both players pass to recovery.

Abjuration triggers, gaining 5 endurance. But it isn't enough.

Postgame Thoughts:

Aaron:
WEE is a beast and I think its a new fave for the BYOTT format. I'm going to build it for sure!
MVP in this series was battlestar, LowKey lockdown on big turns is gamebreaking.

Darius:
God-damned Battlestar. Definately one of those characters you just wiff on noticing his effect entirely until it kills you with a "gatcha!". Second place for this list isn't a bad time at all. It was ironic to me that focusing the anarchy play in game 1 is largely why I lost that game. It won me the TNNB matchup but WEE was just soo big up the curve, it basically was HIS board to control. You can't give away a win like that in the final and expect it to go your way.

He then activates silver surfer, to grab Alias Investigations and place it on top of his deck before passing to combat.

Wes sets a resource and flips up Alias Investigations. He activates Silver Surfer to place Morg on the top of his deck and then activates Alias to rally for a character, clearly succeeding. he then Recruits Morg Protected by XS, then he activates the surfboard toplace a cosmic counter onto XS. Then passes his turn.

JS sets a resource, reveals a spoor in his row and recruits the reservist, triggering senyaka's burn for 2.
Spoor enters play and JS replaces the resource with a card from hand and forms him protecting Senyaka. Moving Gin Genie to his support row.

    COMBAT PHASE

Wes sends Morg into Senyaka for a mutual stun. JS doesn't reinforce.
With a score of 40 to 8 Wes doesn't have the luxury of making it to turn 6. Wes plays Flametrap from his hand (discarding barry Allen 4, and wally West 5) to stun his own Surfer, Doop, and Gin Genie.
He then declares XS into Senyaka. Once legal, playing two rowed Beatdowns, and using XS' ability to remove her cosmic counter to ready her. he then plays Team tactics from his hand exhausting XS to her own swing sending 28 atk over Senyaka for a mutual stun.

Both players pass to recovery.

Wes Recovers Morg, KOing Silver Surfer and XS.
JS recovers Spoor, KOing Doop, Senyaka, and Gin Genie.

JS sets a resource and plays a rowed Glory Hound, targetting Morg and replacing the resource before recruiting Sabretooth from his resource row, opting not to replace the resource. He passes forming them both in his front row.

Wes sets and plays Kindred Spirits, fetching wally west, then activating Alias investigations to rally him successfully. He recruits Wally and forms him in his support row protected by Morg and passes.

    COMBAT PHASE

Spoor swings into Morg. Once legal replacing a rowed Rem-Ram to give him +3/-3.
Wes reinforces with Wally for the mutual stun.
JS follows up with Sabretooth into Wally. Once legal playing the Next brotherhood from his hand, and a Mind over matter leaving Sabretooth swinging at 20 ATK. Both characters stun. and both players pass to recovery.

The Goods: FINALS WEEK

This is it! After 8 weeks of beat downs, shocking upsets and a massive pile of KO's, we have hit the Climax of the summer of Love 2's nostalgic stroll down memory lane.
Finally we bid answers to the question plaguing our times.
"What randomly paired team has the strongest love?"
With two entirely unlikely candidates poised for one, final contest,
we serve up our contenders, one final time.

 

WEE
Wild Pack + Emerald Enemies

This oddball mashup, at first glance seemed like a cheesy wannabe TNB, but the massive size of its mid-game characters and solid recursion tactics made for some pretty convincing wins. Entering the finals as the favorites, WEE seeks to prove that Marvel and DC CAN, in fact, play nice in a random pairing.
In their attempt to take home the gold, expect to see a big focus on Silver Sable if possible over Goldface to ensure some board control. Especially if they can mitigate the potency of Grigori on 4.

Giant-Slayers. God Killers. Lucky?
Their unprecedented and completely unexpected run to the finals included the dispatching of BOTH, BroStat-X AND Gods Matter, the predicted finals contenders at the start of the event. So it feels like a bit of a stretch to call it a "lucky" run. But does the perpetual underdog team have enough left in the tank to close out the completely unexpected Cinderella run?

The Postgame Report: Week 7 - Semifinals

 A shocking upset!

This week was a DOOZY!

Match 5: BroStat-X -VS- Dark Magic

Things immediately didn't look very promising, as BroStat-X won the roll to get their desired Odd initiative.
However, as it turns out, an early Total Anarchy really REALLY helps mitigate the output of TNNBroStat-X (see what I did there?) at one point leaving the potent rusher with a board of ZERO. Dark Magic did a risky play following up the boardwipe, paying 3 to alt recruit the 1 drop Nightmaster, before KOing it to New and Improved, and then paying 20 to alt-recruit Nightmaster 5 on a defending turn, before playing a Blue Devil, also new and Improved as well, leaving them on 3 endurance, but with TWO 5 drops! But the life-gain from Blue Devil and Abjuration kept them afloat to push through the under-dropped numbers on 6 and then secure the win on turn 7 to secure the upset.
While BroStat-X remains to play in the Bronze match tiebreak, they are otherwise, eliminated.

Winning the roll, Devourer had everything they could ever want in this game with a guaranteed turn 6 at their disposal, However a turn 3 Surfer Stun, limited the availability of search while Capture net began to whittle away at Devourer's field presence. Even while harassed though, Devourer managed a 60 damage faceshot on turn 6! However ignoring a well equipped opposing lineup for that ridiculous direct damage proved to not be enough, as WEE pushed back to secure the win on turn 6 by less than 10 points and move on to the finals.

Darius  plays Wake the devil from his hand, electing to rearrange all 3 cards back on top of his deck and drawing a card.
Darius then sets a resource, and recruits Blue devil, protected by Nightmaster. Blue's effect triggers and he loses 4 endurance, before passing.

JS sets a resource and recruits Doop in the hidden area, shrugging.
    "Some wierd draws so far."
    "Hope that means yours sucked."

Both players pass to combat.

    COMBAT PHASE
Darius sends blue devil into Barnacle, and goes into the decision making tank for a while, before flipping up Total Anarchy.
Js passes and barnacle stuns and KOs. Darius sends nightmaster direct for 2, then passes.

JS debates a swing with the almighty Doop, then thinks better of it and passes.

JS sets a resource and recruits Senyaka, passing his build.

Darius sets a resource, and recruits Ilsa Haupstein, forming her in the front row protecting Blue Devil, and moving nightmaster to the support row for potential reinforcement duty.

    COMBAT PHASE
JS declares Senyaka into Nightmaster, Blue Devil reinforces and Nightmaster stuns and KOs. JS then declares Doop into Ilsa, flipping a rowed Planet X and replacing it for +2 ATK, before flipping up a rowed The New Brotherhood and passing at 5 ATK.
Darius activates Ilsa (discarding Witchfire) to fetch New and Improved. then flips a rowed Abjuration, paying 5 endurance, for +3 DEF.
JS considers putting more into the attack but either thinks better of it and passes, or doesn't have the pump. Best Guess? camping 1 or 2 Nexts.
Doop stuns and KOs. 

Both players pass to recovery.

JS sets a resource, and recruits Spoor from the row. replacing the resource with a card in his hand.
Senyaka triggers dealing 2 damage to Darius, and Spoor forms protecting Senyaka before JS passes to combat.

    COMBAT PHASE
Darius sends Ilsa and Blue devil team swinging into Spoor. JS elects to stunback Ilsa, KOing her to Anarchy and Spoor stuns.
Darius then pays 4 endurance, for Grigori's effect to KO Spoor, then declares the mad monk into Senyaka.
    "This sucks."
The characters trade stuns and Senyaka is KOd to Anarchy. leaving JS with an empty board.

    BUILD PHASE
JS sets a resource, and recruits Senyaka.
he then reveals Amelia (revealing a rowed Kleinstock Brothers and a rowed Barnacle for her alt cost) recruiting her from the row.
Senyaka triggers, dealing 2 damage.
He then reveals Barnacle in the row, recruiting it and dealing 2 damage, then follows suite with Kleinstick brothers for 2 damage once more. opting not to replace the resource to stay at 4.
he forms Barnacle front and center, protecting Senyaka and adjacent to both Kleinstick bros and Amelia for maximum power, then passes.

Darius sets a resource, playing a rowed Mobilize (discarding Captain Marvel) to fetch Blue Devil, big blue. He flips up new and Improved, and KO's Blue Devil (2), triggering its effect and gaining 6 endurance, before recruiting Big Blue at 12/12.
Darius then goes into the tank, for a while...
    "Oh %&#@ it, you either have it or you don't."
Darius plays another rowed Mobilize, (Discarding Zatanna) to fetch Nightmaster, demon slayer.
He alt recruits the 1 cost Nightmaster paying 3 endurance, KO,s it to New and Improved, and pays 20 endurance to alt recruit the 5 drop Nightmaster at 11/11.
...and leaving his endurance at 3.
Darius forms Blue devil behind Grigori and leaves Nightmaster in the front row adjacent to the mad monk.

Both players pass to combat.

    COMBAT PHASE
    "Holy shit man. I think that lost you the game."
    "It might have, but if you had another TNB it would be up by now. And I'm betting you didnt draw into it"
JS flips up The Next Brotherhood.
    "You're right. I didn't hit NEW brotherhood."

JS declares Barnacle into Grigori at 8 ATK and passes.
Darius powers up to prevent breakthrough and they both stun, KOing Barnacle to Anarchy.
JS continues with Amelia and Kleinstick Bros team swinging into Blue devil. Amelia is stunned back and KO's to Anarchy in the mutual stun. Forced to pass, JS passes, camping his 9/4 Senyaka, apparently unable to get over the 11 def Nightmaster.

Darius sends Nightmaster into Senyaka for an easy stun, KO-ing it to Anarchy.

    RECOVERY PHASE
 At the start of the Recovery phase, Abjuration triggers, Darius chains New and improved, to KO Blue Devil and Gain 8 Endurance. Abjuration resolves and Darius gains 5 endurance.

Darius recovers Grigori.

        TURN 6
(Darius Initiative)

    DRAW PHASE
(Both Players draw 2 cards)

    BUILD PHASE
Darius sets a resource and recruits Blue Devil (5), losing 4 endurance and forming it behind Grigori. He continues using Nightmaster's effect to spend 1 resource and gain 5 more endurance before passing with the same formation as last turn.

JS sets a resource, and recruits Chrome from the row, opting not to replace it. Following up with Gin Genie, and lastly, a barnacle, protecting Gin Genie. He then plays a rowed Glory hound, (targeting Grigori) and replaces it, flipping into a new Brotherhood.

Darius sends Nightmaster into barlacle.
JS reinforces with Gin Genie and banacle stuns and KOs to anarchy.
Next Grigori swings into Chrome. JS reinforces and both characters stun. Chrome KO's to anarchy.
Lastly, Blue devil swings into Kleinstock Brothers for a one-sided stun. Kleinstock KO's.

Both players pass to recovery.

JS sets a resource, and recruits a rowed Spoor into his front row. replacing the resource.
he then recruits a Kleinstick Bros leaving his resources again at 4.
he forms Spoor protecting Gin Genie and leaves the Bros in the front row adjacent.

Darius sets a resource, and recruits June Moon protected by Nightmaster and passes. Deciding not to use Nightmaster's effect.

    COMBAT PHASE
JS declares Spoor into Nightmaster with 11/7.
    "Not Legal."
Darius activates June, stunning Spoor. Currently with 9 endurance, he keeps control of her.
JS then declares a team attack, sending Gin Genie and Kleinstock into Nightmaster.
Once legal he plays Next Brotherhood from his hand.
Nightmaster stuns back Gin Genie and she KOs.
JS passes.

Darius sends Blue Devil into Kleinstock Bros for a 1-sided stun and ko, Then sends Grigori Direct.

Postgame thoughts:

JS:
Total anarchy really wrecked me in this one. I was expecting to see it but I was hoping it would be with an Ilsa search meaning no anarchy before turn 4. It looked like he nabbed it with his pre-build turn 2 Wake the Devil though. other than that, I felt like I played a pretty tight game, considering how badly turn 4 went.

Darius:
Ripping that Anarchy was glorious.
I'm not sure throwing Nightmaster into play on 5 was as efficient as I hoped it would be, but I needed bodies out fast and I knew in a pinch, I'd be gaining 13 endurance and it helped make me feel better about the cost. On 6 when I ripped another Blue devil off the top i really felt like I had made the right gamble to put it to bed as it allowed be to have a clutch +8 endurance option out again, as well as use Nightmaster 5's lifegain effect.. It was super odd that I never saw a single savage Beatdown that game though. Like, crazy odd.

Aaron sends Man-eater over XS at 7/4. Using chens effect (discarding Fatality) to power-up Man-eater for a one-sided stun he then sends Chen into Silver Surver at 5 ATK for a mutual trade. Aaron passes combat.

Aaron sets a resource, and recruits Silver Sable and passes.

Wes sends XS into Man-eater. Both players pass and both 3 drops stun. barry then swings into Chen. Aaron activates Chen's capture net spinning XS back to Wes' hand (both bounty hunts gain a counter) and placing an additional counter on a bounty hunt before passing into a mutual stun.
Wes activates Galen to gain 2 and passes.

Aaron sends Silver Sable into Galen. Once legal, he cashes in 2 counters from each bounty hunt to draw a net 4 cards, and passes for an easy stun. Wes flips up Keystone City (revealing Wally west) to reinforce. Silver Sable triggers returning Galen back to Wes' hand and placing a counter on each bounty hunt. Aaron once again removes 2 counters from a bounty hunt to draw 2. he then passes.
Wes flips up Elemental converters, (discarding XS and galen) and then activating the converters to draw a card

Aaron sets a resource, recruiting Goldface (discarding man-eater and Chen) and recruits the Shark, forming the shark protecting silver sable, and Man-eater protecting Goldface and passes build.

Wes activates Alias, and rallies for a plot twist (revealing Air-walker) wiffing. he then activates elemental converters to draw a card. Finally setting a resource, he recruits Wally west into his front row and passes.

    COMBAT PHASE
Aaron sends The shark into Barry Allen at 5. Barry allen activates his effect, moving to the support row and neither character is stunned.
Aaron continues with Silver Sable swinging into Wally west. Both characters stun and sable's effect triggers returning wally to Wes' hand while dealing 1 breakthrough. Both bounty hunts gain a counter and Aaron cashes in 2 on one of them to draw 2 cards.

Once legal, Wes activates keystone city revealing the wally to reinforce the attack and Barry stuns.
Lastly, Aaron sends Man-eater direct. Once legal flipping up Stryker's Island and activating it for +3 ATK. leaving Man-Eater at 10 direct.

he then recruits Barry Allen, founding Member, forming both Barrys in the front row.
Wes activates Alias Investigations calling out Character (revealing Wally West) and placing it into his hand.
Wes passes his build.

Aaron sets a resource and plays a Mobilize from his hand (discarding Chen) to fetch Major Force. and equips a capture net onto the Shark.
he forms Man-eater, Sable, and the Shark in his support row, and forms Goldface protecting Sable, and Force protecting Shark, then passes.

    COMBAT PHASE
Wes flips and plays Terminal Velicity onto Barry Allen, founding member, then declares an attack direct for 12.
    "Here it comes!"
    "Yep!"
Once legal, wes activates Barry Allen, (discarding wally West) to ready the 6 drop, he then plays Team Tactics, exhausting the Barry/XS to take the direct attacker to 20 ATK. He then follows up with double savage Beatdowns, allowing them both to resolve before playing a second Team tactics, exhausting Barry for itself and a nice round 60 ATK direct. Wes looks at his one remaining card in hand.
   "that's all I can do."
Wes Passes.

Aaron declares the Shark into Barry/XS with 9 atk. Wes reinforces with Keystone City, revealing Wally.
Next, Goldface, declares onto Barry with 11/9, once legal, activating Stryker's Island, he allows it to resolve, then activates Goldface's effect, KOing it for gain +2/+2. he then flips up Empire of tears (KOing both Bounty Hunts) and activates it to grans another +2/+2 onto Goldface, leaving him at 18/13. for a one-sided stun over Barry.
Silver sable swings direct for 9.
Man-eater swings direct for 7
Major Force swings direct, once legal, Aaron flips up Empire of tears, (KOing The Shark and Man-eater., also KOing the other Empire to Uniqueness.
Aaron activates Empire onto Major force for a direct swing of 16.

Postgame Thoughts:

Aaron:
I was feeling good about this one. Between battlestar and fatality, i figured i'd lock down the kill turn just fine. but even with what, 8 bonus draws i just never found them. Luckily getting the cosmic off of Surfer on 3, ended up being all i needed to do to keep pressure and just push back for the win. 60 damage in the face? that's a helluva way to make it close.

Wes:
Goin all in meant i didn't have the ability to Flame trap that extra swinger, but i didn't really see any better optons. I was math-ing out the last turn and i figured if he doesn't have any unexpected surprises i'll win by 3. Then the resource garbage happened with empire and major Force's passive and it was a done deal.

And now lets talk about my take, on these two games!

Match 5: BroStat-X  -VS-  Dark Magic

Dark magic's upset over Gods Matter has it as an underdog favorite. Unfortunately this match would have been much better fielded by the eliminated contender, rather than Dark Magic, Their tricks, however can go far in stretching those last 10 endurance points to a remarkable effect, but with a complete lack of resource replacement, I just don't see anything other than a Bro-Stat-X failure to execute, either through misplays or horrible draws, that could allow this to be much of a game.
Favored to win:  BroStat-X

Match 6: WEE  -VS-  Devourer of Speed
Devourer of speed has a wicked potent turn 6 punch.
However, WEE has numerous tools to interfere with Devourers board presence thanks to Capture Net x4 and fast drawing options that it enables. If Devourer gets evens, Id call it dead even, but if WEE gets evens, pushing that wombo swing even further away, the match takes a decisive turn to favoring WEE.

The Postgame report: Week 6 - Top 8 Bracket

 A rush pushed back, to turn ... SEVEN?!

With 2 new Brotherhoods out by turn 3, There really wasn't much IMMORTALS could do, but at least we all learned something with our event's first ruling interruption! While it is true that IMMORTALS manage to win the roll, they decisively lose this one, with BroStat-X doubling the spread and ending it on turn 4.

Dark Magic? More like Dark Cockroaches. The went to -3 then 2 turns later they are ending the game at 14. A very taxing use of Conclaves in this one keep Slipstream off the table and far less relevant that he is accustomed to being in a solid display of control.  Dark magic wins the roll, wins the game, beats the spread, and takes their candy.

In what turned out to be a slugfest gone late game, two teams uniquely unable to fare well, in a late game matchup found themselves going to turn 7, with WEE finally squeaking out a win to advance.
WEE wins the roll and beats the spread.

FMDG knew the simplest way to stop the turn 6 insanity, was to focus draws and hope to land 2 Mystical Paralysis by 6. it didn't happen. But not one, not two, but THREE Anti-Life's managed to find themselves into play by turn 5 forcing a substantial deficit going into 6.
Considering Devourer misses the surfboard entirely, it's actually a surprise they managed to fish what they needed to push it through. While Devourer wins the Roll, and the game, Foul-Mouthed Dark God beats the spread.

Mark passes combat.

JS sends Doop direct for 1, triggering his effect to deal an additional damage.

Both players pass.

       TURN 2 (JS Initiative)

    DRAW PHASE
(Both Players draw 2 cards)

    BUILD PHASE
JS sets a resource and recruits Kleinstock Brothers and Barnacle adjacent in the front row and passes.

Mark sets a resource and recruits Havok. passing.

    COMBAT PHASE
at the start of combat, Havok exhausts from his effect.

JS sends Barnacle and Doop into Havok with a team attack.
Mark passes stunning back Doop.
JS continues with Kleinstock Bros direct for 1. he plays Planetx X from the row, replacing itself for +2 ATK, then, hits a second one, once more using it for +2 ATK, and flips up a New Brotherhood, for yet another +2. Not done yet, he plays Glory Hound from the row, replacing it before he FINALLY passes.
    "You must know, how bullshit that was."
    "I've actually seen worse."

    RECOVERY PHASE
JS recovers Doop.
Mark recovers Havok.

    DRAW PHASE
(Both Players draw 2 cards)

    BUILD PHASE
Mark sets a resource and recruits Dr. Sivana, forming it behind Havok before passing.

JS sets a resource, reveals and recruits Senyaka from the row, replacing the resource with a card in hand.
    "Burn for 2."
    "I don't think it works like that. Since recruiting happens before it enters play. Recruiting is paying         relevant costs to play, isn't it?"
After some rules digging, The Summer of Love 2, team is proud to present:

After a fierce debate on rule 301.5 and the surrounding area define the process of recruiting a character,, the entire debate was put to bed with the definition of recruit in the CRD Glossary:
Recruit
To recruit a character or equipment means to announce it, put it on the chain, and pay its costs.

Because of this, Senyaka actually does not deal damage from recruiting itself.

JS forms Senyaka behind Barnacle, leaving Kleinstock Bros, adjacent to barnacle as well and passes.

    COMBAT PHASE
Mark sends Havok into Barnacle. Havok can't be stunned, Senyaka reinforces, and both players pass into a barnacle stun. Then Dr. Sivana swings into Kleinstock bros for a one-sided stun and he passes.

JS passes.

    RECOVERY PHASE
JS recovers barnacle, KOing Kleinstock Bros.

        TURN 4 (JS Initiative)

    DRAW PHASE
(Both Players draw 2 cards)

    BUILD PHASE
JS sets a nd flips glory hound, replacing it. he then reveals a rowed, senyaka, and a rowed Spoor, to alt recruit Amelia into the front row adjacent to Amelia.
He then Reservist recruits Spoor on Barnacle's other side in the front row, dealing 2 endurance loss to Mark as he does so, before passing

Mark sets a resource, and recruits Dark Beast, protecting Dr. Sivana, then passes.

    COMBAT PHASE
At the start of combat, Havok exhausts.

JS flips up a second new Brotherhood.
He then declares Barnacle with his whopping 8 ATK into Dark beast and tentatively passes.
Mark uses Dark Beast's effect (discarding Havok) to place a +1/+1 counter on it, and powers up to 9, aiming to brick.
JS plays The Next brotherhood from his hand, shooting barnacle to 10ATK.
Mark powers up again to 10, then flips and activates Remote Facility (discarding Black Manta) to power up again at for 11.
JS plays Air Strike from the row, replacing the rowed Senyaka, for 12 atk.
    "Touche."
    "Indeed."
Mark reinforces with Senyaka.
Both pass, JS then declares Amelia into Sivana, at a hefty 8/3 for a mutual, with the breakthrough triggering Doop.
He continues with Spoor into Havok, but after some thought Opts to skip on his effect leaving him at 13 for an easy stun. and another doop trigger.
Senyaka declares a direct swing but Mark plays Code White on Sivana, recovering it. So instead Senyaka swings into the Doc at 11 ATK for a mutual stun.
Doop triggers again.
Then doop declares a swing direct.|
Not legal, mark Plays another Code White, recovering Sivana. Leaving his hand completely empty.
Doop swings over Sivana with 7 ATK.

Doops effect procs one last time on the mutual trade.

    RECOVERY PHASE

The game is over, BroStat-X wins!

Postgame Thoughts:

JS:
Planet X into PLanet X into New Brotherhood.
Dreams really DO come true!
And Doop did like 10 damage! go Doop!

Mark:
I suspected this one wold be difficult. and when i had a decent curve and two code whites on 3, i was even feeling a bit cocky. But wow was that a crazy turn 4!
