This time it's not even February yet! But unlike our last foray into smak-downeyness, now, it is time for those elusive monster builds to reveal themselves. The chained up creations that forced entire metas to bow to their will. The decks people unleash to make a singular statement:
"This aint your kitchen-table VS System anymore, friend."
I want 32 of the meanest, most ridiculous, finely tuned winning machines ever concocted. Then I'm going to unleash them in a 32 pod arena until only one remains. That's right folks, it's time for...
Well that's swell Aaron, but what's in it for me?
Well similar to last time the main premise is that it will be a gambling game. Try to pick the deck you think will go all the way for HUGE points! Beyond that, select your pick-ems each week and watch the carnage unfold. And this time, The overall winner will have a custom banner dedicated to them and their awesomeness at the top of the vssystem collective facebook group until the first day of spring. (march 20th) Immortalized for nearly 2 entire months!
So for just under 2 months I'd be Immortalized?
IMMORTALITY!
I don't think Immortality means what you think it means.
PSEUDO-IMMORTALITY!
I suppose it would be pretty nifty. but what if I don't want my personal image immortalized?
Look whoever wins, can essentially dictate the custom banner that I make for the page until spring. Sure, I'd prefer something giving props to the winner directly, but it'll be their rodeo, I just work here.
(No nasty imagery or anything though)
(No nasty imagery or anything though)
So if I won, what if I ask for a banner of a pony playing VS System while burning WOW tcg cards?
Then that's what I'd make.
Ohhh, I'm going to need to think about this.
Well you need to win first.
Let me be completely clear... I LOVE this idea! I love seeing things like this and I love that this community is still active, attentive and vibrant. That being said, I have a few suggestions for how to make this thing even more awesome!
ReplyDelete1) Make rounds best 2/3. There are a number of decks in Golden Age that can just "go off" and it's next to impossible to stop them without the perfect answer. Making rounds best 2/3 reduces the variance and allows each deck to best show its' potential.
2) Bring in a bunch of players! Golden age is a format where it takes a LOT of time to learn to use certain decks even close to optimally. There are certain GA decks that only a hand full of people can play even close to perfectly. So I would suggest that once you have made your top 32 decks, you take players from the community and assign them to a deck (ex. Aaron Mead - Spider Stall). Allow players to come up with the lists that they want to play/feel comfortable with and then put together the bracket. People can play via Skype/google hangouts/etc. and then post their matches online if they want to and would have something like 1 week to complete their matches.
3) If you go this route, then release the bracket info before players go in to their matches. Ex. each player will know what they will be playing against before their match. Golden is a hugely diverse format, and this would allow players to formulate somewhat of a game plan if they want to take the time to do so.
Take these suggestions with a grain of salt, but I think they could be pretty cool.
best of 3 will only apply in top brackets. the best of 3 you propose will also require me to manually type out the batreps. the prospect of up to 48 batreps for round 1 in a small period just isn't viable. As i plan to also be posting decklists, basic strats for each deck before betting commences so readers can make their own decisions regarding matchups.
ReplyDeleteBig VS tourneys never did best of 3 and this one won't either. that said, players will know exactly what they face off against with plenty of notice.
Regarding getting community help, i am absolutely game for that. but historically i've had to keep things local due to problems with other player availabilities so all i can do is try.
however... i AM seriously considering double elim...
DeleteDefinitely fair. I just wanted to put my two cents in there. Again, this is awesome and I can't wait to see what comes out on top. Let me know if you want a hand getting any of the details together. I have top 8 lists from some pretty obscure events if that would be helpful with getting tuned lists together. I also have the Italian top tier golden .doc from a few years back if that would be helpful.
ReplyDeleteway ahead of ya! thanks though! I'm exited too!
